What happens after the dental implant but before the crown is placed?
When I was young I broke my front tooth and ended up with nerve damage and had to have a Root Canal. Currently, I have a porcelin veneer over it, but because I got it when i was young my tooth grew a little and where it meets my gums is visible and a little purple/gray. I'm considering having it removed and getting an implant as a more permanent solution, but I know they take months to a year to get the final result. I'm in grad school and I don't want to have to walk around for that long with a missing tooth in the front of my mouth. What do you do between the initial implant surgery and the final crown placement? Will there be any time in between that I would be toothless?
Your general dentist will most likely make a temporary crown for you to wear until the final crown is ready to be placed. It will look like a regular tooth. Just be gentle with the temp - don't bite directly into things (apples, corn on the cob, things like that). It can pop off easily - so just watch what you chew. If it does come off, the dentist can re-cement it immediately and only takes a few minutes.
