Using an infrared LED illuminator - Can a digital camcorder be used?
I have a paranormal research group, and the last time we went on an investigation, all of our clips were too dark to see.

We use a JVC Everio. It's brand new. It doesn't have the "nightshot" function like Sony Handicams do. But I have an idea... lol...
My camera does see when you point a Remote Control at it and press a button - it is infrared sensitive. If I were to buy an infrared illuminator, wouldn't it be the same thing (or even better) as Sony's "nightshot?"
If yes, please let me know. Use as much detail as possible - this is very important to me.
If no, is there any way to get the "nightshot" effect, to be able to film in the dark, without spending a ton of money, or getting a new camera?
I liked this question as I have a Paranormal Investigation group as you do and my camcorder has not worked since we did a 3 day investigation of a large Mansion that was very active. I am going to call the place that our group uses for infrared items. Our group cannot afford to buy the expensive cameras that we would like. I know that my digital Sony Camera with night-shot is about useless as the pictures come out blurry and dark. This is also important to our group as well. I know that on one investigation we did someone had a Sony camcorder and it had night-shot on it and was used in total darkness but I never saw the results of this as the person who did the filming was a friend of the business owner and really wanted to be part of an investigation. She never released any of the footage for the group to see and after wards and changed her cell # to boot. I would say by her reaction maybe to using that camera she did get something and it scared her off.
Try calling places in your area and ask about your questions as I am going to do and maybe you can get the answers you are looking for. That is only my opinion and I wish I could have had what you needed to know. Good Luck!
