where can i buy a set of surgical instruments?
im looking to buy a cheap or plastic set to use in studying their identifications for surg-tech school. any ideas???
There is no way you can learn to identify surgical instruments from plastic sets, as they will bear a minimal resemblance to the Instruments used in an operating room.
Your plan is nice, but even if you went for cheap used veterinary instruments on EBay you might pay as much as $20 for a pair of Metzenbaum Scissors. A regular pair would be $50. Then it is $5 for a single hemostat, or a mosquito, or Crile.
There are literally thousands of surgical instruments. Some surgical sets can weigh as much as 40 lbs and on major cases there might be three or 4 sets opened for the case, not including basins and supporting pans.
Your best method for learning instruments is to spend as much time as possible in the central processing area, putting surgical sets together. Every good surgical technician that I have ever worked with has started by spending extra time in the instrument rooms, putting sets together.
